호피폴라 미니앨범 “Spring to Spring”
JTBC “슈퍼밴드”의 초대 우승팀 호피폴라(Hoppipolla)가 첫 번째 미니앨범 “Spring to Spring”을 선보인다. ‘밴드’로서 왕좌에 오른 이들이 앨범을 통해서는 어떤 특별함을 전해줄까? TV를 통해 이미 확인한 바대로 이들의 음악 수준을 평가하는 건 큰 의미가 없다. 밴드 불모지에서 이런 격조 있는 음악을 만날 수 있다는 것만으로도 가슴이 벅찰 뿐이다.
그럼에도 불구하고, 이들에게 더 많은 것을 바란다. 이벤트성이 아닌 그들만의 음악색을 키워나가는 밴드로서의 활동을 기대하기 때문이다. JTBC “슈퍼밴드”는 개개인의 감성과 테크닉에 점수를 매기는 프로그램이 아니었다. 밴드로서의 최상의 조합을 찾아내는 과정과 결과를 보여주며 감동의 크기를 키워 나갔다. 멤버 개개인의 능력이 최고라고 해서 그 합이 최상을 만들어내지는 않는다. 밴드의 음악색은 화학적 결합으로 완성되기 때문이다. 그리고 그 합을 찾아 나가는 과정은 머리로 기술로 풀 수 없는 난해하고 험난한 과정이다.
호피폴라가 TV를 나와 처음 선보인 ‘Opfern’과 ‘About Time’은 예상대로 감동적이었다. 더할 나위 없이 고급스럽고 격정적인 사운드, 우열을 가리기 힘든 더블 보컬리스트의 위력은 전에 없었던 흐뭇한 경험이었다. 두 보컬이 두 개의 시점에서 펼쳐내는 스토리, 기타와 첼로로 공간을 그리는 감성 등 칭찬받아 마땅한 시도들이 차고 넘쳤다.
이번 미니앨범 역시 먼저 선보인 두 곡의 감성과 연장선에 자리한다. ‘Opfern’과 ‘About Time’이 앨범에 다시 수록되었으며, 짙은 위로와 따뜻한 치유도 가득 담겼다. 주목할 부분은 이번 앨범을 통해 밴드로서 스스로의 색을 드러내기 시작했다는 점이다. 좋아하는 음악을 호피폴라의 색으로 재해석하는 단계를 넘어서 정서적 합을 통해 스스로의 음악색을 만드는 화학적 결합에 이르렀다. 동경하던 음악들을 함께 만들어보는 선을 넘어서, 함께 시간과 정서를 나누며 스스로의 색을 만들어 냈다는 얘기다. 새롭게 수록된 4곡의 웰메이드 넘버들은 이러한 이유로 이들이 새로운 도약의 궤도에 올라섰음을 보여준다.

격정을 다스리는 사랑의 메시지
새롭게 수록된 4곡의 공통된 특징은 ‘투보컬-첼로-어쿠스틱기타’라는 독특한 밴드 편성의 장점을 극대화했다는 점이다. 이러한 호피폴라 특유의 화학적 결합은 두 가지의 특별함으로 귀결된다.
첫 번째는 목가적 공간감이다. ‘소박하고 평화로우며 서정적인’ 공간을 그려내며 유럽과 한국 사이의 어딘가로 이끌어 간다. 무겁고 어두운 감성으로 변질될 수 있는 첼로 사운드를 어쿠스틱기타로 차분하게 다독이며 평화롭게 표현해내는 부분은 창의적이고 유니크하다. 평화로움 위에서 경쟁하는 두 보컬의 미성 또한 상심에 봉사하는 속된 위로와 궤를 달리한다. 자연의 온기에 더해진 따뜻한 위로다.
두 번째는 사랑의 메시지다. ‘그거면 돼요’는 사랑 받고 싶지만 내가 주는 사랑마저 주지 못하게 될까 두려워하는 화자의 시점이 가사에 담겼다. ‘Our Song’은 현실에 지친 사람들에게 전하는 희망의 메시지가 담겼으며, 모든 멤버가 제주도에 모여 함께 음악을 만들었다는 ‘소랑’은 ‘사랑’의 제주도 방언을 타이틀로 뽑았다. 두 개의 목소리와 사운드의 합은 다이나믹한 격정을 만들어내지만 그 격정에는 차가움도 날카로움도 담겨있지 않다. 격정을 다스리는 사랑의 메시지가 기여하고 있음이다.
타이틀곡은 ‘그거면 돼요’. 멤버들은 ‘투보컬-첼로-피아노-어쿠스틱기타’라는 호피폴라 기본 악기 구성의 매력을 최대한 보여주고 싶었다 전한다. ‘Our Song’은 멤버 전원이 보컬 녹음에 참여한 곡. 드럼 사운드까지 더해져 웅장한 느낌을 준다. 연주곡인 ‘동화 <Märchen>’은 독일 뷔어츠부륵 궁전을 산책하면서 받았던 신비로운 영감을 그렸다. ‘메르헨(Märchen)’은 독일어로 ‘동화’라는 뜻. 어린 아이의 순수한 마음으로 여정을 떠나는 호기심 가득한 벅찬 마음을 표현했으며, 기타와 첼로만으로 곡의 다이나믹함을 표현하는데 중점을 두었다. 기타 바디힛으로 드럼을 채워 넣었으며, 멤버들은 후반부로 갈수록 발전되는 첼로 화음 선율과 기타 태핑을 들어보라 권한다. ‘소랑’은 사운드의 두께를 줄이고 최대한 투보컬의 매력을 보여주는 것이 특징이다.

Returns & Exchanges
1. Requirements:Please take into consideration that we only accept qualifying returns but not exchanges. Refunds are issued once the returned products clear our inspection.
1) An item is eligible for cancellation if:
-you posted a Return request within 24 hours of payment and your order is still under “Pending” status (if your order is under “Preparing Shipment” status, please contact our customer service center) or
-the order is delayed for more than 10 days since payment and you have not received any notification regarding the delay; or
-the ordered item is out of stock.
2) We accept return(s) if:
-you receive a product different from your order; or
-you receive a defective product.
**Return Instructions
(1) Post a return request on our Return forum within three days of receipt. You are required to attach the photos of the received product(s) and include the item code, the order number, and the reason for the return.
(2) A customer service representative will be in contact to assist you by email or phone.
(3) Items returned must be in their original condition, which includes tags and any packaging. Also, you need to include a note of your order number, name, and user ID.
*Please be advised that returns are accepted ONLY IF you followed the instructions above and your return request has been approved by our staff. Returns that are shipped to us without any prior consent are not accepted.
*Please note that EVEN the defective/incorrect item(s) must be returned with all of the tags and labels intact. The item(s) must be sent in their original packaging and unworn.
*Please include all contents of the original package and free gifts (if applicable) in your return packaging.
* Shipping fee for any return caused by our fault will be paid by the company. However, if EMS’ cash on delivery is not possible then you can scan the return receipt and either mail it with the item to return or post an image of it on the forum. The shipping fee will be refunded once the returned item has arrived.
3) We do not accept return(s) if:
-you are returning the items just because you changed your mind (on size, color, etc.)
-you are returning shoes, bags, or any other accessories
-the products are damaged due to your mishandling
-your return request is not approved by our staff
The following items are not considered defective:
* Items that are originally manufactured without tags or labels
* Items with creases that may have been made while shipping
* Items with unsatisfactory/incomplete finish due to mass production
4) If there is a missing item from your order:
*Contact our customer service center by phone or by forum (if you cannot reach us by phone) within 1 day of delivery.
*Please keep all contents of the original package including packaging material (boxes, plastic bags etc.) with you until you are instructed otherwise.
Please note that we may not be able to process the refund for your missing item if you lose or damage any packaging material.
