바람과 물의 마음
장필순 <petrichor>
사막 위 ‘신기루’(Soony6 2002)를 노래할 때 그의 음성은 건조하게 부는 바람 같았다. 도시의 고층 빌딩 사이를 누비는 바삭하게 마른 공기는, 무심한 음성은, 이상한 방식으로 마음을 흔들었다. 그 해 여름에는 붉은 티셔츠를 입은 무리들이 함성을 지르고 기뻐했는데, 많은 사람들은 뜨겁게 들떠있었는데, 이 외롭고 스산한 공명은 어디서 불어왔던 걸까.
바다 건너 제주, 인적 드문 숲에서의 삶은 바람을 촉촉한 습기로 바꾸어놓았다. 뽀얗게 살갗을 감싸오는 이른 아침의 안개처럼 촘촘하게 떠다니는 소리들은 기분 좋은 각성이면서 신비로운 숲의 이야기들로 초대하는 손이다.
그 손을 기꺼이 잡는다면, 언덕을 올라야 한다. 잠에서 깨어난 새벽, 혼자 걷는 어스름한 길, 자욱한 안개는 빛을 예감한 고요 속에 잠겨 있다. ‘아침을 맞으러’(장미빛 인생, 1998) 바람 잦은 언덕 위를 오르던 때처럼, ‘안개오름’을 오르며 오래전 꿈이 되어 그때와 꼭 닮은 노래로 앨범을 연다. 그리고, 거세지 않은, 촉촉한 비가 땅을 적신다. 빗소리가 실로폰처럼 경쾌한 연주를 시작하고, 흙내음(페트리코)이 비릿한 기억을 일깨우기도 할 것이다. 소리, 색, 촉감, 그리고 냄새가 환기하는 한 나절의 세계는 어느 새 작고 신성한 소도를 짓는다.
바다는 바람과 물이 만나는 곳이다. 그 곳에는 비도 내리고, 빛도 내린다. 내 감각을 넘어서는 규모의 광활하고 역동적인 물 앞에 서면 오히려 세상이 멈춘 듯 고요하고, 거대하게 단순해진다. 그 앞에서는 눈길이 먼 곳에서 가까이로, 내 자신으로, 지금 현재로 돌아오고, 오늘의 기적을 실감한다. 지금이 아니면 언제 마음을 꺼낼 수 있느냐 묻는다. 이 바다를 비우고 채우는 것은 달의 힘이다. 멀지만 밀려오는 파도로, 거기 없지만 거기 있고, 어둠 가운데 떠오르기에 달은 꿈과 닮았다. 그 빛은 뜨겁지 않고 서늘하다. ‘빛과 어둠 사이 하나의 영혼’이 되어 비상한다(달에서 만나).
어둠 속에 빛을, 침묵 속에 노래를 만난다면 그것은 곧 구원(soteria)이 될 것이다. 사랑과 미움, 우울과 기쁨 사이 저울질은 부질없다. 새벽의 대기 속으로 다만 가볍게 날아오를 날을 기다린다. 너머의 세계로 건너가는 일은 길고 무거운 몸이 아닌, 가볍게 날아가는 새들에게 허락된 축복이다.
날지 못하는 오늘의 나는 걷는다. 긴 산책을 외롭지 않게 했던 너는 더 먼 길로 떠났지만 바다와 노을과 추억이, 함께 했던 풍경이 걸음마다 휘감긴다. 순하게 소길리 노란 대문 집 마당을 지키던 든든한 ‘개똥이’의 몸짓이 축축한 흙 속에 스며들었다. 숲은 애도하기 좋은 공간이다. 숲은 물만큼 깊고, 어둡고, 화창하고, 반짝이고, 두렵고, 알 수 없는 곳이다. 숲에서는 새로운 싹이 나고 꽃이 피는 만큼 시들고 죽고 썩어 흙으로 돌아가는 것들이 있다. 순환을 만들어내는 나무 그늘은 서로의 몸을 부비며 노래를 한다. 변하고 사라지는 것들을 향한 ‘숲의 레퀴엠’이다.
긴 산책 끝에 다다른 곳은 ‘다시, 집’. 출발지이자 도착지인 그 곳의 포근한 이불 속. 창가에서 맞는 밤공기의 감각 속에 지난 일들은 무엇이든 부드럽게 사그라진다. 바람의 삶이었던 어제가 잠시 고일 수 있는 공간이다. 조심스럽게 다가서는 건반, 커튼을 펄럭일 정도의 고요한 움직임 속에 잠시 멈출 수 있는 시간이다. 밤공기의 정적 속 ‘불꽃놀이’를 바라본다. 순간을 밝히고 어둠 속에 잠기는 빛. 음성은 서서히 상승하다 만개한 후 점점이 사라진다. 지금 아니면 언제냐 묻던 모습 그대로, 어떤 내일보다 오늘을 바라본다. 빛나는 것도, 부서지는 것도.
집과 숲과 바다가 있는 곳 제주는, 그리고 지구는 어딘가 깎이고 무너지고 사라지고 있다. 숲의 나무가 베어지고, 넓어진 도로에 더 많은 차가 오가고, 가로등이 빛나고, 높은 건물들이 들어선다. 깊고 어둡던 숲의 아름다움, 보다 가까웠던 어둔 하늘과 그 속의 별들은 점점 더 멀어진다. 브레이크 없는 문명이 강제로 멈춰진 팬데믹 시절을 통과하며 근본적인 물음을 되새겨본다. 살아 있는 것을 함부로 하는 삶에 대해, 거기 있는지 조차 잊은 ‘여덟 번쨰 별’에 대해 알고 있는지 묻는다. 숲이 스스로 불렀던 레퀴엠에 대한 조용한 답가이기도 하다.
긴 이야기의 마지막에 닿은 곳은 바다. 안개비가 뿌리고, 포말이 뽀얗게 올라온다. 얼굴에 닿는 촉촉한 감각이 상쾌하다. 장필순의 뽀얀 음성은 마지막 트랙에서 가득 차올랐다 파도처럼 하얗게 흩어진다. “물은 언제나 흐르고, 언제나 떨어지며, 언제나 수평선 끝에서 죽어 없어진다”던 작가의 말처럼 제각각 모습이 바뀌지만 또한 하나의 질료인 물은 결국 사랑, 아니 ‘소랑’으로 귀결된다. 빛나는 지금을, 사라질 내일을, 그 모든 순환의 자연을 소박하지만 겸허하게 받아들이는 마음이 된다. 물의 마음이 된다.

Returns & Exchanges
1. Requirements:Please take into consideration that we only accept qualifying returns but not exchanges. Refunds are issued once the returned products clear our inspection.
1) An item is eligible for cancellation if:
-you posted a Return request within 24 hours of payment and your order is still under “Pending” status (if your order is under “Preparing Shipment” status, please contact our customer service center) or
-the order is delayed for more than 10 days since payment and you have not received any notification regarding the delay; or
-the ordered item is out of stock.
2) We accept return(s) if:
-you receive a product different from your order; or
-you receive a defective product.
**Return Instructions
(1) Post a return request on our Return forum within three days of receipt. You are required to attach the photos of the received product(s) and include the item code, the order number, and the reason for the return.
(2) A customer service representative will be in contact to assist you by email or phone.
(3) Items returned must be in their original condition, which includes tags and any packaging. Also, you need to include a note of your order number, name, and user ID.
*Please be advised that returns are accepted ONLY IF you followed the instructions above and your return request has been approved by our staff. Returns that are shipped to us without any prior consent are not accepted.
*Please note that EVEN the defective/incorrect item(s) must be returned with all of the tags and labels intact. The item(s) must be sent in their original packaging and unworn.
*Please include all contents of the original package and free gifts (if applicable) in your return packaging.
* Shipping fee for any return caused by our fault will be paid by the company. However, if EMS’ cash on delivery is not possible then you can scan the return receipt and either mail it with the item to return or post an image of it on the forum. The shipping fee will be refunded once the returned item has arrived.
3) We do not accept return(s) if:
-you are returning the items just because you changed your mind (on size, color, etc.)
-you are returning shoes, bags, or any other accessories
-the products are damaged due to your mishandling
-your return request is not approved by our staff
The following items are not considered defective:
* Items that are originally manufactured without tags or labels
* Items with creases that may have been made while shipping
* Items with unsatisfactory/incomplete finish due to mass production
4) If there is a missing item from your order:
*Contact our customer service center by phone or by forum (if you cannot reach us by phone) within 1 day of delivery.
*Please keep all contents of the original package including packaging material (boxes, plastic bags etc.) with you until you are instructed otherwise.
Please note that we may not be able to process the refund for your missing item if you lose or damage any packaging material.
