지난해 역주행의 신화 ‘빛나리’와 ‘청개구리’로 많은 사랑을 받았던 펜타곤이 여덟 번째 미니 앨범 [Genie:us]로 또 한 번 아티스트로서의 무한 성장 가능성을 예고한다.
소원을 들어주는 램프의 요정 ‘Genie’와 ‘우리’라는 뜻의 영어 단어인 ‘Us’를 합쳐 만든 이번 앨범은 천재라는 뜻의 [Genie:us]로 재탄생했다. 사람은 누구나 저마다의 분야에서 천재적 재능을 가지고 있다는 의미가 숨겨져 있는 이번 앨범은 듣는 이들로 하여금 즐거움, 위로, 희망, 용기를 동시에 줄 수 있는 다채로운 6개의 트랙으로 구성됐다. 이번 앨범 역시 멤버들의 자작곡으로 가득 채워 펜타곤만의 음악적 색깔과 개성을 더욱 풍성하게 담아냈다.
이번 미니 8집의 첫 번째 트랙이자 타이틀 곡 ‘신토불이’는 Future House 장르의 댄스곡으로 펜타곤만이 소화할 수 있는 위트 있고 직설적인 가사와 더불어 강렬하고 파워풀한 칼군무로 퍼포먼스에 강한 펜타곤의 강점이 잘 드러난다. ‘신나는 토요일 불타는 이 밤’ 일상에서 받은 스트레스를 모두 날려 버릴 만큼의 강한 비트와 시원한 멜로디가 포인트로, 후렴구에 반복되는 ‘신토불이’라는 단어가 중독성을 불러일으킴과 동시에 이 노래의 취지를 정확히 표현하고 있다. 지루하고 분통 터지는 일주일을 보낸 후, 스트레스를 불태우는 토요일의 파티를 ‘잔치’로 표현한 뮤직비디오 또한 인상적이다.
두 번째 트랙 ‘Lost Paradise (Hip Hop Unit)’은 멤버 후이, 유토, 키노, 우석이 참여한 힙합 유닛 곡으로 이미 바래진 큰 꿈을 가졌던 순수한 시절의 자신에게 지금의 너는 왜 겁을 먹고 있는지, 실패를 이야기하기에는 아직 이르진 않는지에 대해 질문을 던진다. 그리고 절망을 느끼는 모든 사람들의 마음 속 깊은 곳에는 여전히 ‘파라다이스’가 존재한다는 희망적인 메시지로 그 해답을 제시하고 있다.
세 번째 트랙 ‘그 순간 그때까지 (Ballad Unit)’은 멤버 진호, 홍석, 신원, 여원, 옌안이 참여한 유닛 곡으로 진한 감성이 더해진 펜타곤표 발라드 곡이다. 잔잔한 피아노 반주와 곡 후반부 귀를 사로잡는 풀 밴드 사운드가 돋보이는 이 곡은 듣는 이들로 하여금 희망과 용기를 갖게 하는 가사가 가슴을 두드린다. 그 순간 그때를 위해 계속해서 나아가자는 펜타곤의 굳은 의지와 서정적인 가사가 잘 맞물려 감동적인 분위기를 연출한다. 특히 발라드 유닛 멤버들의 가창력을 새롭게 재조명할 수 있을 것.
네 번째 트랙 ‘에일리언’은 랩/힙합 장르의 신나고 유쾌한 곡으로 에일리언처럼 가요계에서 자신들만의 특색을 만들어가겠다는 펜타곤 멤버들의 다짐을 담아냈다. 펜타곤 특유의 솔직하고 위트 있는 가사와 곡명처럼 결코 평범하지 않은 곡 전개가 포인트다. 특히 중간중간 등장하는 다양한 음악적 포인트들을 집중해서 듣는다면 곡의 재미를 더욱 극대화시킬 수 있을 것이다.
다섯 번째 트랙 ‘봄눈’은 어깨가 절로 들썩이는 신나는 Alternative Rock 장르의 곡으로 2018년 봄, 펜타곤을 찾아왔던 특별한 경험을 노래한다. 1년이 지나 새로운 모습으로 찾아온 펜타곤과 항상 곁에서 응원해주는 유니버스의 2019년 봄, 소중했던 그때와 같은 행복이 내릴 수 있기를 소망해본다.
마지막 트랙인 ‘Round 1 (Bonus Track)’은 팬들을 위한 보너스 트랙으로 펜타곤 전 멤버가 모두 작사와 작곡에 참여해 더욱 눈길을 끈다. 장난기 넘치는 비트와 밝은 코드 진행 위에 멤버들 각자가 대결 상대를 만들어 서로에게 조심스럽지만 유쾌한 디스를 하는 가사가 재미를 더한다. 서로를 너무나 잘 아는 멤버들이기 때문에 알 수 있는 포인트와 실생활이 녹아든 가사가 이 곡의 포인트가 될 것. 마지막 멤버 우석의 파트 ‘우리 진짜 친하니까 이럴 수 있는 거 아니에요’에서 펜타곤 멤버들의 끈끈한 우애를 물씬 느낄 수 있다.

Returns & Exchanges
1. Requirements:Please take into consideration that we only accept qualifying returns but not exchanges. Refunds are issued once the returned products clear our inspection.
1) An item is eligible for cancellation if:
-you posted a Return request within 24 hours of payment and your order is still under “Pending” status (if your order is under “Preparing Shipment” status, please contact our customer service center) or
-the order is delayed for more than 10 days since payment and you have not received any notification regarding the delay; or
-the ordered item is out of stock.
2) We accept return(s) if:
-you receive a product different from your order; or
-you receive a defective product.
**Return Instructions
(1) Post a return request on our Return forum within three days of receipt. You are required to attach the photos of the received product(s) and include the item code, the order number, and the reason for the return.
(2) A customer service representative will be in contact to assist you by email or phone.
(3) Items returned must be in their original condition, which includes tags and any packaging. Also, you need to include a note of your order number, name, and user ID.
*Please be advised that returns are accepted ONLY IF you followed the instructions above and your return request has been approved by our staff. Returns that are shipped to us without any prior consent are not accepted.
*Please note that EVEN the defective/incorrect item(s) must be returned with all of the tags and labels intact. The item(s) must be sent in their original packaging and unworn.
*Please include all contents of the original package and free gifts (if applicable) in your return packaging.
* Shipping fee for any return caused by our fault will be paid by the company. However, if EMS’ cash on delivery is not possible then you can scan the return receipt and either mail it with the item to return or post an image of it on the forum. The shipping fee will be refunded once the returned item has arrived.
3) We do not accept return(s) if:
-you are returning the items just because you changed your mind (on size, color, etc.)
-you are returning shoes, bags, or any other accessories
-the products are damaged due to your mishandling
-your return request is not approved by our staff
The following items are not considered defective:
* Items that are originally manufactured without tags or labels
* Items with creases that may have been made while shipping
* Items with unsatisfactory/incomplete finish due to mass production
4) If there is a missing item from your order:
*Contact our customer service center by phone or by forum (if you cannot reach us by phone) within 1 day of delivery.
*Please keep all contents of the original package including packaging material (boxes, plastic bags etc.) with you until you are instructed otherwise.
Please note that we may not be able to process the refund for your missing item if you lose or damage any packaging material.
